Kinetics and Thermodynamics of the Efficient Extraction Process of Eucommia ulmoides Gum

Abstract
Using Eucommia ulmoides Oliv.pericarp as raw material,this study investigated the effects of a combined pretreatment method involving pre-impregnation and mechanical crushing on the extraction of E.ulmoides gum(EUG).The kinetic and thermodynamic parameters of the EUG extraction process after pretreatment were calculated,and the extraction efficiencies of water(H2O)and promoter(KH2PO4,50 g/L)pre-impregnation systems were compared.The results demonstrated that the combination of pre-impregnation and mechanical crushing significantly improved the EUG extraction yield.When KH2PO4 was used for pre-impregnation and extraction was conducted at 353 K for 50 min,the yield reached 17.91%.Within the temperature range of 323-353 K,the rate constant increased in the accelerator system compared to the pure water system,with the maximum yield improvement being 2.66%.The EUG extraction process followed first-order kinetics model(R2>0.98),with activation energies(Ea)of 8.31 and 7.19 kJ/mol for the water and promoter systems,respectively.Thermodynamic analysis revealed that the enthalpy changes(△H)were 112.25 and 94.92 kJ/mol,the entropy changes(△S)were 369.06 and 324.33 J/(mol·K),and the Gibbs free energy changes(△G)ranged from-6.96 to-18.03 kJ/mol and-9.84 to-19.57 kJ/mol for the water and promoter systems,respectively.These results indicated that the extraction process was spontaneous,endothermic,and entropy-driven.Both kinetic and thermodynamic analyses suggested that EUG extraction was more efficient after pre-impregnation in the promoter system.关键词
