Photosynthetic Characteristics of Plants in the Ulan Buh Desert and Their Relationships with Leaf Structure and N,P Elements

Abstract
[Objective]To reveal the relationships between photosynthetic characteristics,structural traits,N and P content,and their utilization efficiency of leaves/assimilatory branches in six typical xerophytic plants with different photosynthetic pathways(C3,C4).[Method]This study focused on the leaves of Nitraria tan-gutorum Bobr(C3),Hedysarum scorium(C3),Ammopiptanthus mongolicus(Maxim.ex Kom.)Cheng f(C3),Sarcozygium xanthoxylon Bunge(C4),Calligonum mongolicum Turcz(C4),and Haloxylon ammodendron(C.A.Mey.)Bunge(C4)in the Ulan Buh Desert.Photosynthetic characteristics including(net photosynthet-ic rate(Amax),stomatal conductance(Gsmax),and transpiration rate(Emax))were measured alongside two structural traits(specific leaf area(SLA)and leaf dry matter content(LDMC)),leaf CUAN and CUAP,and nutrient use efficiency.The relationships between photosynthetic traits,structural traits,and CUAN and CUAP were analyzed for C3 and C4 plants.[Result](1)There were significant differences in leaf photosyn-thetic characteristics,structural traits,CUAN and CUAP,and utilization efficiency among the six plant spe-cies.(2)The Amax,Emax,Gsmax,CUAN,CUAP,PNUE,and PUE of C4 plant leaves were higher than those of C3 plants,while the SLA and LDMC of C3 plant leaves were higher than those of C4 plants.There were sig-nificant differences in SLA between the two photosynthesis pathways in plants(p<0.05).(3)The Gsmax and Amax in C4 plant leaves showed a highly significant negative correlation with SLA(p<0.01),and a signi-ficant positive correlation with CUAN and CUAP(p<0.05).There was a significant positive correlation(p<0.05)between Gsmax,Amax,CUAP,and PNUE in C3 plant leaves.There was a significant negative cor-relation between Emax and CUAN in C4 plants(p<0.05),and a highly significant positive correlation between Emax and CUAP in C3 plants(p<0.01).[Conclusion]In C3 plants,photosynthetic traits are mainly associ-ated with SLA,LDMC,Gsmax and CUAP,while in C4 plants,they are mainly associated with PNUE,CUAP,CUAN,Amax,Gsmax,and LDMC.关键词
