摘要

Abstract

[Objective]To explore the effects of thinning,pruning and their interaction on the growth and timber assortment structure of young Cunninghamia lanceolata plantations,providing technical support for targeted cultivation of high-quality C.lanceolataplantations.[Method]A two-factor randomized block design including three thinning retention densities:high(H:1 800 plants·hm-2),medium(M:1 200 plants·hm-2),and low(L:900 plants·hm-2),and two pruning treatments of pruning(with a starting diameter of 10 cm)versus non-pruning were employed in this study by using 4-year-old C.Lanceolata plantations.Growth sur-veys were conducted every 2 years during 2000-2008,beginning in the year following pruning.[Result](1)Thinning and pruning had no significant effect on the average tree height of the plantation(p>0.05).Thinning significantly increased the average diameter at breast height(DBH)and tree volume of C.Lanceolata but decreased stand volume(p<0.05).Under low retention density(L),pruning decreased DBH,tree volume and stand volume,pruning under medium(M)and high(H)densities had the opposite effect.(2)Thinning and pruning significantly affected the yield of small-and medium-diameter timber,with overall yield increasing with the increase of thinning retention density.Pruning decreased the yield of small-diameter timber and the total increment of 8 years,but increased the yield of medium-diameter timber and the total increment of 8 years.(3)The yield and utilization rate of large-diameter timber initially increased and then decreased with increasing thinning retention density.Pruning under low retention density led to an overall decline in the yield and utilization rate of large-diameter timber,whereas under medium(M)and high(H)densities,pruning increased the yield and proportion of large-diameter timber to varying degrees.(4)Significant interactions between thinning and pruning were observed for DBH,stand volume,and the yield and increment of medium-diameter timber.[Conclusion]Thinning promotes the growth of C.Lanceolata plantations and enhances the yield and utilization rate of large-diameter timber.The effects of pruning on growth and timber assortment structure are complex and closely related to thinning retention density.Under the conditions of this study,a combination of a retention density of 1 200 plants·hm-2 and a pruning intensity of 10 cm is the most conducive to the growth of C.Lanceolata plantations and the cultiva-tion of knot-free large-diameter timber plantation.
