On the Narrative of"Night Incense-Burning"in Li Rihua's Southern Story of the Western Wing
摘要
Abstract
The custom of"Night Incense-Burning"originated in the Han Dynasty and gradually evolved into a ritual conveying romantic aspi-rations during the Tang and Song periods.This simple amorous pursuit underwent symbolic reconstruction in later narrative literature—becoming asso-ciated with clandestine trysts.Li Rihua's Southern Story of the Western Wing repeatedly depicts Cui Yingying burning incense under moonlight.Through portrayals of male voyeurism and female solicitation,the text constructs a system imbued with erotic undertones.This plot device exhibits u-nique narrative tension:it employs internal perspective to unfold scenes while simultaneously advancing the plot,crafting multidimensional character-izations.关键词
