A Study on the Poems and Prose of Liu Zhen in the Eastern Han Dynasty
摘要
Abstract
Liu Zhen,a distinguished litterateur and historian from Nanyang Commandery in the Eastern Han Dynasty,served as a leading figure among the scholars of the Eastern Han Dynasty during the reign of Emperor An.As one of the principal compilers of the Dongguan Hanji(东观汉记),Liu Zhen left behind a corpus of seven extant works,comprising both poetry and prose,each of considerable literary and historiographical value.His poetry is marked by a harmonious blend of refinement and substance,skillful use of imagery,and a direct,heartfelt mode of expression.His prose,on the other hand,is distinguished by a classical and dignified style,rich and elaborate in exposition,and faithful in recording historical realities.Both his poetic and prose writings exerted a lasting influence on later generations.In particular,a comparative study between Liu Zhen's Dong Xun Song(东巡颂)and the works of the same theme by Zhang Heng and Ma Rong,namely Dong Xun Gao(东巡诰)and Dong Xun Song(东巡颂),reveals the distinctive stylistic features and artistic characteristics of Liu Zhen's compositions.关键词
