Material and Spiritual Relief:The 1947 Charity Performance of the Children's Play WATCH and Its Meaning Construction

Abstract
In 1947,after the establishment of the Children's Theatre under the China Welfare Foundation,the first children's play WATCH was staged.This performance was a special charity activity,which was a double relief for the material and spiritual world of poor children.The scene was lively and the fundraising results were very good,which helped the social education,charity and artistic development at that time,and was of landmark significance.The charity connotation of the children's play WATCH itself and the extended discussion of the creators further constructed the multiple meanings of the charity performance.Meanwhile,newspapers and periodicals,through their timely and multidimensional coverage,provided a crucial platform for disseminating and reinforcing its charitable value and social significance.The collective emotional concern of the public for children also contributed significantly to shaping the symbolic meaning of the WATCH charity event.Beyond its fundamental functions of education and entertainment,the 1947 charity performance of WATCH embodied broader implications for the development of children's theatre and philanthropic culture in modern China.关键词
