Abstract

Based on ADCIRC+SWAN wave-flow coupling model,this paper developed a high-resolu-tion storm surge model for Yazhou Bay with an unstructured grid that coordinated land and sea.The re-liability of model was validated using observed total water level data and storm surge data within ty-phoon records from tidal station near Yazhou Bay.Simulations of super typhoon storm surge events un-der varying typhoon parameters were conducted to investigate how factors such as typhoon direction,translation speed,maximum wind radius,and astronomic tides scenario when storm surge inundation occurs in the coast of Yazhou Bay.The results show that:Under different typhoon scenarios,storm surge flooding occurred in coastal regions of Yazhou Bay and in the areas near the river estuary.Ty-phoons making landfall from the south result in more severe storm surge inundation;slower typhoons lead to longer and more extensive flooding.The storm surge under typhoon's maximum wind radius in-creasing from 10 km to 30 km causes the inundation area expanding is 1.8 times as large as before.The storm surge flooding inundation area during the landfall of the typhoon in Yazhou Bay is 3 times larger when the astronomical tide phase is at high tide compared to low tide,and when a typhoon storm surge coincides with spring tide in Yazhou Bay,it can lead to maximum inundation covering of the area's sur-face 40.7%increase compared to which with neap tide.Typhoon storm surge simulation and floodplain analysis are of great significance for improving typhoon storm surge inundation control strategies and disaster mitigation measures beside Yazhou Bay.
