Abstract

To investigate the effects of different red and blue light ratios(R∶B)from laser diodes(LD)on the growth and development of watermelon seedlings,an experiment was conducted using watermelon variety'Baiyitianwang'as the test material.Under greenhouse conditions,three red and blue light ratio treatments(9R9B,9R6B,9R3B)were set up,the growth parameters,photosynthetic performance and antioxidant enzyme activities of the seedlings were measured and analyzed with natural light as the control.The results showed that different ratios of red and blue light could promoted the growth and photosynthesis of watermelon seedlings,but had no significant effect on antioxidant enzyme activity.Specifically,under the 9R6B treatment,the stem diameter,aboveground dry weight,aboveground fresh weight,underground dry weight,seedling vigor index,variable fluorescence(Fv),maximum photochemical efficiency of PS Ⅱ(Fv/Fm)and potential photochemical efficiency of PS Ⅱ(Fv/Fo)were significantly increased at the 1-leaf stage by 35.0%,175.0%,156.8%,100.0%,133.3%,28.0%,20.3%and 51.3%compared with control,respectively.The plant height,aboveground dry weight,aboveground fresh weight,underground dry weight,seedling vigor index,chlorophyll SPAD value,initial fluorescence(Fo),maximum fluorescence(Fm),Fv,Fv/Fm and Fv/Fo were significantly increased at the 2-leaf stage by 22.7%,61.1%,33.8%,33.3%,71.4%,14.0%,13.4%,83.2%,27.6%,8.6%and 31.2%compared with control,respectively.The plant height,stem diameter,aboveground fresh weight,underground dry weight,Fo and Fm were significantly increased at the 3-leaf stage by 23.4%,30.0%,42.2%,42.9%,20.0%and 24.5%compared with control,respectively.In summary,the LD supplemental lighting with a red and blue ratio of 9∶6 can effectively promote the growth and photosynthesis of watermelon seedlings,providing an optimized solution for facility-based seedling cultivation.
