Pilot-scale study on in-situ remediation of chlorinated organically contaminated groundwater using zero-valent iron-enhanced microbial composite functional materials

Abstract
The technology research on in-situ remediation and risk control of high concentration organic pollution sites using functional materials such as zero valent iron and microorganisms has become one of the hotspots in recent years.However,it is mostly focused on indoor experiments,and the on-site experimental research in complex soil groundwater environments is not yet sufficient.This article is based on an organic pollution site in the Yangtze River Delta,conducting a pilot study on the addition of zero valent iron to enhance microbial composite functional materials.The dynamic monitoring of the concentration changes of chlorinated organic compounds in groundwater after the addition of materials was carried out for 13~21 consecutive months,and analysis was carried out using methods such as single well validation,multi well differential concentration comparison,and numerical simulation.The results indicate that zero valent iron reinforced microbial composite functional materials have good remediation effects and can maintain long-term effectiveness in low concentration chlorinated organic matter contaminated groundwater environments,with a degradation rate of over 90%;Long term degradation of chlorinated organic compounds can also be maintained in medium concentration groundwater environments,with a final degradation rate of approximately 70%;In groundwater environments contaminated with high concentrations of chlorinated organic compounds,materials may become overloaded and deactivated,with pollutant degradation rates ranging from approximately 17%to 58%.The zero valent iron enhanced microbial composite functional material has a good remediation effect on polluted groundwater in the low to medium concentration range,while in high concentration pollution scenarios,it needs to be combined with enhanced measures for joint remediation.The research conclusion of this article can provide empirical reference for the engineering practice of zero valent iron reinforced microbial composite functional materials in the field of in-situ remediation of organic polluted groundwater.关键词
