Abstract

Xiangxi Miao paintings,which originated from the draft patterns of Miao embroidery,have evolved into an art form with independent aesthetic value.In response to the challenges faced by Xiangxi Miao paintings in terms of inheritance,this study aims to explore the translation and regeneration of the cultural symbols in traditional Xiangxi Miao painting patterns.Based on the theoretical framework of cultural translation,this study analyzes the artistic features and cultural core of Xiangxi Miao paintings.By focusing on the material,behavioral,and spiritual levels,design methods are employed to translate the visual elements and establish a visual element database.The shape grammar is utilized to conduct pattern derivation,and contemporary design language is integrated to achieve regeneration,thereby completing the innovative design of traditional patterns.This approach transforms traditional Xiangxi Miao painting patterns into modern visual elements with ethnic cultural connotations,marking a shift from material preservation to cultural narrative.
