Development of a Questionnaire on Supportive Care Needs of Family Caregivers of Cognitive Impair-ment Patients and Its Reliability and Validity Test

Abstract
Objective To develop a questionnaire on the supportive care needs of family caregivers of cognitive impairment patients and to test its reliability and validity.Methods From October 2023 to March 2024,based on the supportive care needs framework,an initial questionnaire was developed through qualitative studies,literature review,expert consultation and pilot test.A total of 215 family caregivers of cognitive impairment patients who visited the cognitive impairment clinic and neurology clinic at a Grade Ⅲ-A hospital in Suzhou were continuously enrolled by convenience sampling from April to July 2024 to participate in the reliability and validity test of the questionnaire.Results The final questionnaire on the supportive care needs of family caregivers of cognitive impairment patients comprised 32 items from the following 5 dimensions:information needs,caregiving skills guidance needs,medical resource service needs,emotional and social needs,and self-health management needs.The questionnaire demonstrated a Cronbach's α coefficient of 0.939,a split-half reliability of 0.843,a test-retest reliability of 0.913,and a content validity index of 0.939.Exploratory factor analysis extracted 5 common factors with eigenvalues>1,resulting in a cumulative variance contribution rate of 64.872%.Conclusion The questionnaire on the supportive care needs of family caregivers of cognitive impairment patients shows good reliability and validity.It can serve as a reference for healthcare providers to assess the supportive care needs of these caregivers.关键词
