Abstract
Urease-producing bacterial Neobacillus mesonae NS-6 and soybean urease were evaluated with regards to their urease activities,as well as the yields and unconfined compressive strength of calcium carbonate(CaCO3)produced through the induction under different pH conditions.Meanwhile,the microstructural features of CaCO3 deposition,along with its cementing effects on quartz sand,were also examined in this study.The urease activity of strain NS-6 increased with incubation time and was stabilized at 7.9 mmol/(L·min)after 32 hours,while the urease activity from the soybean kept at a constant level of 6.0 mmol/(L·min).During the variation of pH values from 4 to 12,the cementation process experienced the initial growth followed by gradual decrease.In the end,the CaCO3 content and compressive strength by the urease-producing bacteria(12.9%and 0.239 MPa,respectively)were both higher than those of the soybean urease group(10.7%and 0.215 MPa,respectively).With the combination of SEM-EDS and XRD analyses,the CaCO3 precipitation induced by strain NS-6 was comprised of both calcite and vaterite,whereas the soybean urease mediated process exclusively gave calcite for the CaCO3.Furthermore,excellent cementation effect could be achieved by filling in the spaces between the quartz sand particles with CaCO3 crystals formed through both types of inductions.关键词
