Abstract

The microbial seed coating was explored,with regards to its effects on seed germination and growth of Pennisetum alopecuroides(L.)Spreng.),using salt-tolerant growth-promoting bacteria as beneficial microorganisms.The application of additives at different concentrations to the seed coating agent was screened for the best seed coating formula according to seed germination.At the same time,potting experiments were carried out to study the growth-promoting effects of microbial seed coating on Pennisetum alopecuroides.As a result,the optimal formulation of microbial seed coating was as follows:1%sodium alginate and 0.3%polyvinyl alcohol(film former),0.2%acid fuchsin(colorant),5%sodium lignosulfonate(dispersant),0.1%salicylic acid+0.1%polyaspartic acid(regulator),1%urea+0.04%potassium dihydrogen phosphate(nutrient).The subsequent bonsai experiments of Pennisetum alopecuroides showed the use of the best microbial seed coating agent led to the increase of plant height,root length and fresh weight by 42.23%,72.58%and 43.37%,respectively.In addition,the contents of chlorophyll,soluble sugar,soluble protein and Vitamin C all increased(by 44.71%,141.18%,168.75%and 33.38%,respectively),except the decrease of malondialdehyde level by 44.58%.Overall,our developed microbial seed coating agent meets the national standards for seed coating agents and microbial inoculants.The utilization for seed coating of Pennisetum alopecuroides can not only reduce the damage caused by salt stress,but also improve the stress resistance of Pennisetum alopecuroides.Such benefits are of great significance for improving saline-alkali land.
