Abstract
Objective:To develop a breastfeeding preparedness scale for women in late pregnancy and to validate its reliability and validity.Methods:Based on Meleis' transition theory as the theoretical framework,the initial draft of the scale was developed and revised through literature review and analysis,qualitative interviews,expert consultations,and a pre-survey.A total of 743 women in late pregnancy from a tertiary grade A maternal and child health hospital in Changsha were recruited from November 2024 to January 2025 for scale investigation and reliability/validity testing.Results:Exploratory factor analysis extracted four common factors,with a cumulative variance contribution rate of 89.816%.The developed breastfeeding preparedness scale for late pregnancy included four dimensions:personal status,knowledge level,coping ability,and anticipated support,comprising 25 items.Confirmatory factor analysis indicated good model fit.The item-level content validity index(I-CVI)ranged from 0.900 to 1.000,and the scale-level content validity index(S-CVI)was 0.958.The overall Cronbach's α coefficient of the scale was 0.969,while the Cronbach's coefficients for the four dimensions were 0.986,0.984,0.974,and 0.947,respectively.The split-half reliability coefficient for the total scale was 0.864,and for the four dimensions,they were 0.986,0.973,0.974,and 0.951,respectively.Conclusions:The developed breastfeeding preparedness scale based on transition theory demonstrates good reliability and validity.It could be used to assess breastfeeding preparedness among women in late pregnancy.关键词
