Alleviation effects and ecological mechanisms of different organic fertilizers on peanut continuous crop-ping obstacles

Abstract
[Objectives]This study aimed to investigate the alleviating effects of different organic fertilizers on continuous crop-ping obstacles in peanut production and to explore the underlying ecological mechanisms.[Methods]A field experiment was conducted in a typical peanut continuous cropping field in Henan Province,China.Five treatments were established:no fertiliz-er(CK),chemical fertilizer alone(CF),kitchen waste organic fertilizer(KF),chicken manure organic fertilizer(JF),and pig manure organic fertilizer(PF).We assessed the effects of these treatments on peanut yield components,disease incidence,soil physicochemical properties,soil enzyme activities,and the content of phenolic acid autotoxins.[Results]The fertilization treat-ments significantly influenced peanut agronomic traits and yield components.All organic fertilizer treatments resulted in signifi-cantly greater main stem height,number of branches,pods per plant,full pods per plant,100-pod weight,and 100-kernel weight compared to the CF and CK treatments.The PF and JF treatments were particularly effective,increasing pod yield by 39.4%and 38.5%,respectively,compared to CK.Organic fertilizer application also significantly reduced the disease indices for peanut leaf spot and brown spot,with the PF and JF treatments showing the strongest disease suppression.Soil analysis re-vealed that organic fertilizers significantly enhanced soil pH,available nitrogen,phosphorus,potassium,and organic matter content.The PF and JF treatments were most effective in improving overall soil fertility,while the KF treatment was particu-larly effective in elevating soil organic matter.Furthermore,organic fertilizers significantly increased the activities of urease,ac-id phosphatase,catalase,and polyphenol oxidase.The PF treatment led to the highest activities for all enzymes,showing in-creases of 49.1%,40.1%,34.0%,and 20.6%over CK,respectively.Meanwhile,organic fertilizers significantly reduced the soil concentrations of the autotoxic phenolic acids vanillic acid,ferulic acid,and benzoic acid.The PF and JF treatments achieved the greatest reductions,outperforming the KF and CF treatments.[Conclusions]Organic fertilizers alleviated peanut continuous cropping obstacles through multiple pathways:improving soil physicochemical properties,enhancing enzyme activi-ties,reducing phenolic acid accumulation,and suppressing disease incidence.Among the fertilizers tested,pig manure and chicken manure organic fertilizers exhibited the most comprehensive benefits and are recommended for widespread adoption in peanut production regions.关键词
