Popular Culture and World Politics in the Digital Age:Energy Geopolitics and Conceptions of Energy Security in U.S.Video Games:A Case Study of Call of Duty:Ghosts
摘要
Abstract
Popular culture and world politics are not two discrete domains, but rather a continuum.Advancements in digital technologies have increasingly blurred the boundary between real-world politics and popular culture, giving rise to a dynamic, mutually constitutive intertextual relationship.Popular culture is shaped by world politics while simultaneously shaping public perceptions of it,thereby con-tributing to the construction of global political reality. In the digital era, popular cultural products such as video games exhibit pro-nounced ideological orientations. The U.S.game Call of Duty:Ghosts constructs a geopolitical conflict narrative centered on energy,mir-roring American societal anxieties about energy security.Simultaneously, through the game's immersive virtual experiences,it reproduces and rationalizes U.S.conceptions of energy security, reshaping players'perceptions of national interest, international conflict, and global order. As instruments of soft power, popular culture products like video games influence public opinion and provide potential legitima-tion for related foreign policies, participating covertly in the construction of the global political ecosystem. This perspective offers a novel theoretical perspective for understanding the complex dynamics of contemporary world politics.关键词
