Abstract

Water inrush at the tunnel face is a frequent hazard during shield tunneling in karst areas.Ensuring a safe thickness of the anti-outburst rock mass at the tunnel face can effectively prevent such disasters.Based on the Longling launching shaft-Pingdi station section of the Shenzhen-Huizhou intercity railway,six key factors influencing the safety of the tunnel face anti-outburst rock mass were identified.A three-dimensional numerical model was developed using 3DEC software to conduct orthogonal experiments investigating the minimum safe thickness of the anti-outburst rock mass ahead of the tunnel face under conditions involving confined pressurized karst caves.The results showed that by analyzing the experimental results through multiple regression fitting and machine learning,a predictive model for the minimum safe thickness of the shield tunnel face anti-outburst rock mass,considering confined pressurized karst caves,was established.By comparing the predicted calculation results with the results of existing theoretical formulas,the average accuracy exceeded 90%.The occurrence time of water inrush at the tunnel face could be comprehensively determined by taking the plastic zone distribution as the primary criterion and incorporating readily measurable factors such as tunnel crown displacement in practical engineering.Compared to the finite element method(FEM)and two-dimensional discrete element method(DEM),the three-dimensional DEM effectively represented the coupling effects between structural planes and water pressure.The findings can provide guidance for the safe design and hazard prevention of shield tunnels in karst areas.
