Abstract

With the extensive application of lithium-ion batteries in consumer electronics and new energy vehicles,higher performance demands have been placed on electrolytic copper foil,a critical anode current collector material.Chloride ions are commonly used as an important additive in the electroplating of copper foil,and their concentration must be strictly controlled,as both insufficient and ex-cessive amounts can degrade the performance of the copper foil.This study designed a system with excessive polarizing additives and varying chloride ion concentrations.Cyclic voltammetry(CV)was used to investigate the depolarization ability,and chronoamperometry(CA)was applied to study the nucleation and growth processes of copper.The results showed that as chloride ion mass concentration in-creased,the nucleation density decreased from 3.025×10⁹ cm-2 to 1.52×10⁹ cm-2.Significant differences in mechanical properties and microstructure were observed in 6 μm copper foils prepared under different chloride ion mass concentrations.Low mass concentrations(10~30 mg/L)promoted the growth of columnar crystals and preferential orientation of the(111)crystal plane,while maintaining low surface roughness and good mechanical properties.At medium to high mass concentrations(50~70 mg/L),coarse grain formation was accelerated,leading to uneven grain distribution,increased surface roughness,and a decrease in both yield strength and tensile strength.As chloride ion mass concentration increased from 10 mg/L to 70 mg/L,the average grain size increased from<1 μm to 3.7~6 μm.The twin density increased from 37.6%to 57.7%(at 50 mg/L),and then decreased to 54.8%at 70 mg/L.Meanwhile,the geometric dislocation density showed a decreasing trend,with concentrated dislocations in fine-grain regions and lower dislocation density in coarse-grain regions.
