Effects of Ca/Cd stoichiometric ratio on Cd absorption dynamics of pepper roots under different pH conditions

Abstract
[Objective]The effects of different Ca/Cd stoichiometric ratios on cadmium absorption dynamics in pepper roots were studied,in order to provide theoretical basis for improving the Cd tolerance of pepper and reducing the risk of pepper products polluted by Cd.[Method]Taking the seeds of liner pepper,Xiangla No.4,as the research objects,the hydroponic cultivation method was used to simulate soil solutions at varying pH levels(pH 5,pH 6,pH 7).The different stoichiometric ratios of Ca/Cd(Cd+2 mM Ca,Cd+4 mM Ca,Cd+8 mM Ca,Cd+16 mM Ca,Cd+32 mM Ca)were set,and the Cd accumulation amount,absorption capacity and uptake flux in pepper root were measured to study the interactive effects of Ca2+and Cd2+on the Cd uptake dynamics under diverse pH conditions.[Result]Under different Cd treat-ments,with the increase of Ca concentration,the Cd accumulation of pepper gradually decreased.At pH 6,Ca2+had the least effect on the competitive adsorption of Cd2+,resulting in the highest Cd accumulation as a whole;At pH 5,the effect of competition was the greatest,and the Cd accumulation was the lowest,but the Cd adsorption on the root surface was significantly higher than the other two pH treatments.Ca/Cd stoichiometric ratio showed a negative linear relationship with the complex flux and absorption flux of Cd2+on the root surface per unit ar-ea,and the Cd2+complex amount on the root surface per unit area showed a good positive linear correlation with the absorption flux.The effect of Cd2+complex amount on the absorption flux per unit area was significant at pH 6,and Cd2+exhibited higher bioavailability and was easier to accumulate in plants.[Conclusion]Through optimizing the stoichiometric ratio of Ca/Cd in the rhizosphere and maintaining a weak acidic environment(pH 5),the absorption of Cd2+by pepper plants can be maximally suppressed,which provide technical reference for agri-cultural practices aimed at the safe production of low-Cd pepper plants.关键词
