Abstract

To meet the quantitative application requirements,microwave radiometers are required to possess the high calibration accuracy while satisfying the high spatial resolution.The main beam efficiency directly affects the calibration accuracy of radiometers.Normal front-fed reflector antennas suffer from obstructions in the central area of the reflector,which leads to high sidelobes and low main beam efficiency.This paper introduces a novel front-fed reflector antenna structure that features a hole in the center of the main reflector and a set of shaped reflectors below the center hole to regulate the amplitude and phase of the antenna aperture field.Firstly,a front-fed Cassergrain antenna operating at 54 GHz and 183 GHz frequencies is designed.Secondly,a new mathematical model for calculating the antenna radiation pattern is established based on the relationship between the antenna aperture field distribution function and the radiation field.Using the geometric optics method,a pair of mirrors are shaped and optimized.Finally,the fabricated shaped reflectors are tested.The test results are validated through semi-physical simulations and the main beam efficiency reaches 90%.
