Investigation and Functional Analysis of the Luocun Grottoes in Shannan,Xizang
摘要
Abstract
The Luocun Grottoes, among the better-preserved grottoes in Shannan,Xizang,ex-emplify the structural characteristics and evolutionary patterns of grottoes in the region. In the 11 th century, the AK1 central-pillar grotto in Luocun,Qusong County, was carved in imitation of the Chala Lupu Grottoes, exclusive to the Tubo royal family.Ini-tially,the AK1 grotto served as an independent site for Buddhist activities for the gen-eral populace. As Buddhist influence grew, surrounding temples and stupas were con-structed,expanding the site into a comprehensive monastic system integrating grottoes and temples. The increasing number of monks led to the creation of additional grottoes around AK1 for residence and practice. The Luocun Grottoes reflect the re-proliferation of Buddhism in central Xizang from the 11th to 17 th centuries and its integration into local society, while demonstrating the composite structure of Shannan's grottoes and temples as a complete monastic system.关键词
