Abstract

Due to the unknown lift-off distance and probe attitude,there was a great error in defects detection in pressure vessels with coatings.In order to improve the detection accuracy,a pulsed eddy current detection and signal processing method was proposed for corrosion and thinning defects in pressure vessels under unknown lift-off state.Firstly,the simulation software was used to establish a pulsed eddy current detection model for corrosion defects,and studied the relationship between the detection signal and the lift-off distance.Then,key characteristic parameters were used to eliminate the lift-off interference,constructed a calibration curve for characterizing the change of the material thickness,and optimized the differentiation method of different types of defects by combining with the frequency domain analysis.Finally,an experimental test system was built to test steel plate specimens with different corrosion thinning defects.The results show that the method can effectively suppress the lift-off effect,accurately recognize the thickness change of 1 mm on the specimen surface within the range of 0~9 mm lift-off,and distinguish the defect types.This method can be used for high-precision detection and classification identification of corrosion defects in pressure vessels under unknown lift-off.
