Abstract

[Objective]This study aimed to investigate the effects of exogenous gibberellins(GA),salicylic acid(SA),and melatonin(MT)on sugar beet seed germination and seedling growth,providing a theoretical basis for the selection of sugar beet seed priming agents.[Methods]The sugar beet cultivar'NT39106'was used as the experimental material,with GA,SA,and MT employed as priming agents for a duration of 6,8 and 22 hours,resulting in a total of nine treatments.Various parameters including germination potential,germination rate,seedling fresh weight,and average bud length were measured to analyze their impact on the germination of sugar beet seeds.[Results]Under the 6-hour and 22-hour conditions,compared to the control,GA,SA,and MT treatments significantly increased germination potential,germination rate,seedling fresh weight,and average bud length,with no significant differences observed among the three exogenous hormone treatments.Under the 8-hour condition,all three exogenous hormones significantly promoted the germination of sugar beet seeds with GA exhibiting the best promoting effect,enhancing the germination potential and germination rate by 21.34 and 17.00 percentage points,respectively,compared to the control.[Conclusion]Overall,all treatments promoted the germination and seedling growth of sugar beet seeds,with the 8-hour GA treatment demonstrating the greatest priming effect.
