The Situation of the Sugar Seed Industry in China During the 14th Five-Year Plan and Development Suggestions for the 15th Five-Year Plan

Abstract
The seed industry is the foundation and key to the development of the sugar industry and is the core of the competitiveness of the modern sugar industry.Sugarcane and sugar beet are the most critical sugar crops,and China is one of the few countries in the world that grows both sugarcane and sugar beet.Sugarcane cultivation is mainly distributed in southern provinces such as Guangxi,Yunnan,and Guangdong,while sugar beet are primarily concentrated in northern regions such as Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang.Since the 14th Five-Year Plan,China's sugar seed industry has made significant progress in innovation.Several iconic varieties,such as GT42,GL05136,and YZ081609,have been successfully developed and widely promoted for sugarcane production.By 2024,the new generation of sugarcane varieties accounted for 91.8%of the sugarcane area.The high-yield and high-sugar single embryo resistant varieties NT39106 and ST1718 developed from sugar beet have achieved zero breakthrough through pellet production and demonstration promotion,reaching 533.3 hm2.In response to a series of problems in China's sugar production,such as outdated biological breeding technology,lagging selection of sugarcane varieties suitable for mechanical equipment,disease resistance,weak breeding ability and foundation of sugar beet,policies and measures have been proposed to develop parents suitable for mechanized production,disease resistance and variety selection,and strengthen the construction of seed breeding and propagation promotion platforms.关键词
