Research progress on the correlation between oral and respiratory system health status
摘要
Abstract
Oral health is an integral part of overall health,and the link between oral health and systemic diseases is an emerging field in modern medical research.The oral cavity and respiratory system exhibit close connections in both anatomical structure and physiological function,establishing pathways for the transmission of microorganisms and inflammatory factors between the two systems.A growing body of research in recent years indicates that oral diseases—particularly periodontitis and dental caries—may impact respiratory health through multiple pathways,potentially increasing the risk of respiratory illnesses.Conversely,respiratory diseases themselves can also affect patients'oral health to varying degrees.This article systematically reviews the association between oral and respiratory health,summarizes the epidemiological evidence and underlying mechanisms,and aims to provide references for oral health management in patients with respiratory diseases.关键词
