A new ecosystem for digital training in surgical oncology driven by artificial intelligence and virtual reality

Abstract
On the background of the"New Medical Sciences"surgical oncology education faces challenges including an increase in complex procedures,the need for increasingly refined operational skills,and the uneven regional distribution of educational resources.In this environment,leveraging digital and intelligent technologies such as artificial intelligence(AI)and virtual reality(VR)has emerged as a new breakthrough.However,current research and application of such technologies in surgical oncology education remain limited.This article reviews the current state of AI and VR applications in medical education and,based on the unique characteristics of surgical oncology,elaborates on their practical integration across five key domains:surgical simulation,personalized learning pathways,formative assessment,non-technical skills training,and remote collaborative teaching.AI+VR technologies not only overcome long-standing limitations on insufficient hands-on opportunities,lack of standardized evaluation systems,and limited access to shared resources,but also serve as powerful tools to foster paradigm shifts in teaching philosophy and promoted high-quality development of tumor surgery teaching and educational equity.While implementation still faces challenges such as technical complexity,lack of standardized protocols,faculty adaptation,and data compliance concerns,the promotion of procedural standardization,multi-center collaborative innovation,and supportive policy development may help address these barriers.Ultimately,AI+VR-driven digital innovation holds great potential to become a key driver for advancing high-quality development and educational equity in surgical oncology training.关键词
