Effects of Heat-Sensitive Moxibustion at LI11 on Surface Electromyographic Signals of Biceps and Triceps in Post-Stroke Patients with Upper Limb Spasticity

Abstract
Objective:To investigate the clinical efficacy of heat-sensitive moxibustion in treating post-stroke upper limb spasticity.Methods:A total of 120 stroke patients with hemiplegia were randomly assigned to the conventional moxibustion group and the heat-sensitive moxibustion group.Both groups received routine rehabilitation therapy;on which basis,the conventional moxibustion group underwent standard moxibustion,whereas the heat-sensitive moxibustion group received heat-sensitive moxibustion.Treatments were administered once daily for 30 minutes per session,over a course of 10 consecutive days.Fugl-Meyer Assessment(FMA)scores for upper limb motor function were recorded on days 2,4,6,8,and 10 of the treatment.Before and after the treatment,the following evaluations were performed:Modified Ashworth Scale(MAS)for upper limb muscle tone,surface electromyography(sEMG)of the biceps brachii and triceps brachii,and Modified Barthel Index(MBI)for activities of daily living.Results:Both groups showed significant reductions in RMS values of the biceps brachii and triceps brachii,as well as MAS scores after the treatment compared with baseline(P＜0.05).Meanwhile,MBI and FMA scores increased significantly in both groups after the treatment(P＜0.05).Compared with the conventional moxibustion group,the heat-sensitive moxibustion group demonstrated significantly lower RMS values and MAS scores(P＜0.05),along with significantly higher FMA and MBI scores(P＜0.05).Conclusion:Heat-sensitive moxibustion can significantly reduce RMS values of the biceps brachii and triceps brachii in stroke patients with hemiplegia,while markedly improving activities of daily living,upper limb motor function,and spasticity of the affected elbow joint.Its therapeutic efficacy is superior to that of conventional moxibustion.关键词
