The Role,Pathways and Characteristics of U.S.Community Colleges in Advancing General-vocational Education Integration

Abstract
The vocational-general education integration is a crucial agenda in contemporary educational reform,as it concerns individual development,the reconstruction of educational system,and the process of national modernization.How to advance the vocational-general education integration in higher vocational education is a key issue in China's education reform.U.S.community colleges—guided by a threefold roles of expanding access to higher education,empowering diverse learner development,and serving regional economic growth—have established a practice framework for vocational-general education integration.Centered on curriculum systems,credit transfer mechanism,career guidance and regional collaboration,this framework demonstrates four instructive features:the curriculum system balances"vertical and horizontal integration",fostering both program quality and mutual value between vocational and general education;the credit transfer system reconciles"standardization"and"flexibility",creating coherent,adaptable and effective learning pathways;the career development support system integrates"universality"and"personalization",advancing the shift from opportunity equity to outcome equityl;the regional talent cultivation network connects"industry-education integration"with"vocational-general education integration",enriching its social significance.关键词
