Research Strategies and Application Prospects of Targets of Traditional Chinese Medicine Prescriptions from A Holistic View

Abstract
The research model for the targets of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)prescriptions from a holistic view centers on the complete prescription to study its sites of action.Its scientific connotation is represented by a five-dimensional integrated research strategy consisting of prescription-target-marker-efficacy-verification-innovation.The specific modules include identification of targets based on TCM prescriptions,target-marker association,revealing TCM efficacy from markers,efficacy verification in clinical practice,and inheritance and innovation.Under the guidance of the holistic view of TCM,this research model breaks through the limitations of component-centered target research approaches and holds significant application value and broad prospects in the inheritance and innovation of TCM.By introducing the research strategy of this holistic target research model and its role in interpreting the connotation of TCM prescriptions,this paper discusses the application value of this research model in multiple TCM fields including new drug research and development,quality evaluation,prescription compatibility,and toxicology research.This model can interpret the overall efficacy and mechanisms of action of TCM prescriptions with modern scientific language.In terms of quality control,this model can be used for the consistency evaluation of marketed TCM products,the establishment and evaluation of quality standards for intermediates and finished products during TCM production,the quality evaluation of quality markers in the research and development of classical TCM prescriptions,and the quality evaluation of Chinese medicinal material resources.In terms of new drug research and development,it can clarify the indications,clinical efficacy,target population,and clinical benefits.In terms of prescription compatibility,it can explain the scientific connotation underpinning the compatibility principles of sovereign,minister,assistant,and guide.Furthermore,clarifying the targets and off-target effects of prescriptions from a holistic view can reveal the mechanisms and establish quantitative evaluation criteria for the adverse reactions of TCM prescriptions,and provides a reference for understanding toxicity attenuation and efficacy enhancement of TCM prescriptions.Finally,through the accurate evaluation of the individualized efficacy of TCM treatment,the research model for targets of TCM prescriptions from a holistic view can help to explore the new efficacy,new value,and new connotation of TCM prescriptions,thereby facilitating the inheritance and innovation of TCM.关键词
