Application progress of multimodal MRI in the Evaluation of lower limb muscles in knee osteoarthritis

Abstract
Knee Osteoarthritis(KOA)is a common chronic joint disease that not only causes joint structural damage but also leads to significant changes in muscle morphology and function,such as muscle atrophy,fat infiltration,and decreased muscle strength,through the mechanical imbalance between lower limb muscles and joints.The mechanical imbalance between lower limb muscles and joints is regarded as one of the important factors contributing to KOA.In recent years,the rapid development of MRI technology has provided new tools for the comprehensive assessment of the morphology,structure,and function of lower limb muscles in patients with KOA.This review systematically elaborates on the technical principles of T1-weighted imaging,T2-weighted imaging,T2 mapping imaging,Dixon water-fat separation technology,MRI radiomics,and related cutting-edge technologies,and introduces their applications in the evaluation of lower limb muscle atrophy,fat infiltration,and decreased muscle strength.The purpose of this review is to systematically summarize the application progress of multimodal MRI technology in the evaluation of lower limb muscles in KOA patients,provide a scientific basis for the optimization of clinical diagnosis and treatment plans,and the formulation of rehabilitation strategies,and contribute to the improvement of precision medical care for KOA patients.关键词
