Composition characteristics and assembly mechanism of bacterial community in biological treatment system of pharmaceutical wastewater

Abstract
[Objectives]The purpose of this study was to explore the composition characteristics and assembly mechanism of bacterial communities in the activated sludge of a pharmaceutical wastewater biological treatment system,providing theoretical guidance for improving the efficiency and system functional stability of pharmaceutical wastewater biological treatment processes.[Methods]This study focused on a biochemical treatment system,which had been operating stably for an extended period in a pharmaceutical wastewater treatment plant in Jiangsu Province.Activated sludge samples were collected continuously for four seasons.Illumina Novaseq high-throughput sequencing technology and metagenomic analysis methods were used to analyze the diversity and composition characteristics of the microbial community in the activated sludge samples.The neutral community model and co-occurrence ecological network analysis methods were used to investigate the assembly mechanisms and symbiosis mechanisms of bacterial communities under the stress of complex pharmaceutical wastewater pollution.[Results]The diversity and composition of bacterial communities exhibited seasonal fluctuations.The neutral community model indicated that deterministic processes primarily governed the assembly mechanisms of bacterial communities in the activated sludge,and there was a significant correlation between bacterial communities and water quality parameters.Additionally,the distribution of bacterial communities exhibited distinct modularity,with functional bacterial aggregation forming four main modules.The dominant genera within these modules included Hydrogenophaga,Flavobacterium,Solidesulfovibrio,Aeromonas,Fluviibacter,and Bacillus.[Conclusions]Revealing the diversity,composition,and assembly mechanisms of bacterial communities under the stress of complex pharmaceutical wastewater pollution were crucial for selecting efficient degradative bacteria.This study highlighted key factors influencing the stable operation and efficiency enhancement of biological treatment systems for pharmaceutical wastewater.关键词
