Research Progress of Plant-based Solar Evaporators

Abstract
The world is currently facing an escalating freshwater crisis,exacerbated by climate change,environmental pollution,and excessive water consumption.Desalination has emerged as a pivotal method for addressing freshwater scarcity,with solar interface evaporators playing a crucial role in this process.Materials used in solar evaporators must exhibit high light absorption efficiency,effective water transport properties,and low thermal conductivity traits that are naturally provided by certain plant species.A comprehensive review is provided on solar evaporators that utilize carbon materials,metallic nanomaterials,and polymeric substances as photothermal layers,alongside plant-based substrates including loofah,bamboo,and wood.A comparative analysis is conducted on the evaporation rates,efficiencies,and salt resistance of various types of evaporators.The research findings indicate that the structural design of plant-based evaporators can significantly reduce heat loss while improving both evaporation rates and overall efficiency.Furthermore,the rapid water transport channels in most plant-based evaporators facilitate the formation of salt concentration gradients that promote the self-dissolution of salts,thereby mitigating issues of salt deposition.Additionally,a comparison is presented of the photothermal performance of plant-based solar evaporators with those utilizing hydrogels and foam sponges as matrix materials and discusses potential future development trajectories for plant-based evaporators.关键词
