Contemporary Capitalism and New Individualism:Reflections on the Transformation of Capital Accumulation Models Since the 1970s
摘要
Abstract
The shift in capitalist accumulation models since the 1970s has engendered a new form of individualism.Privatisation and financialisation have dismantled collective temporal imaginaries,while post-Fordism has intensified temporal-spatial compression and collage-like landscapes,plunging subjects into temporal disorder.Capital's profit-seeking pathways have shifted towards dispossession,monopoly,and speculation,supplanting the orderly future vision underpinned by production cycles.This has compelled subjects to retreat into internal temporal imaginaries,fostering orientations towards"hyper-individualism"and"narcissism".This new individualism anchors future visions to tangible returns,manifesting as"self-investment"behaviours(such as health and career planning)within the context of privatised education and healthcare.This phenomenon underscores the urgency of reconstructing visible,orderly,and secure future visions alongside social mobilisation mechanisms,rather than negating the possibility of collective temporal grand narratives.关键词
