Research Progress in the Influence of Urban Trees on Solar Radiation

Abstract
Solar radiation is the dominant energy source that drives the evolution of the urban thermal environment.Urban trees influence the transmission of solar radiation through shading,reflection,absorption,transmission,and scattering,thereby significantly improving the microclimate and thermal comfort.Based on the PSALSAR review framework,this paper includes 206 highly relevant literature as the research database to review the multi-scale effects,key influence factors and research methods of urban trees affecting solar radiation.The results show that vegetation at regional,street,and building scales can substantially attenuate solar radiation and reduce ambient temperatures.Leaf density is identified as the primary factor affecting solar radiation,while tree height,crown width,street geometry,and building orientation also exert regulatory effects.Environmental simulation tools such as ENVI-met and Ecotect Analysis,together with remote sensing inversion,represent the mainstream methodological approaches,providing strong support for quantifying solar radiation reduction and its spatial distribution.Future research should focus on seasonal dynamics,species-specific differences,and multi-scale coupled modeling,as well as the development of predictive frameworks based on intelligent algorithms,to better support urban green space planning and climate adaptive design.关键词
