"Proposition"as a Pseudo-Concept:Revisiting the Relations Among World,Idea and Language
摘要
Abstract
The theoretical issue with the term"proposition"lies in its conflation of phenomena across three domains:the world,ideas,and language.Human cognition of the world gives rise to concepts,which,when encoded in language,are manifested as semantics.The fundamental semantic unit employed in human comprehension of the world is the"event,"linguistically encoded as a sentence.Within a sentence,only structural components encoding events are present;no words encode propositions.This paper critiques several propositional views,including the factual,ontological,possible worlds,and semantic perspectives,pointing out that each suffers from significant theoretical flaws.关键词
