Approaches to"Intellectual and Spiritual History":Methods and Writing Pathways—Examining Jiangsu Library:Feng Menglong

Abstract
Through a comprehensive examination of historical facts related to Feng Menglong and a meticulous process of verification,Jiangsu Library:Feng Menglong delineates the evolution of his inner world.In his youth,he prided himself on being an"ardent lover"and"sentimental soul",embracing a life of uninhibited indulgence.In middle age,marked by his compilation of A History of Love,he transitioned from a focus on individual emotion and self-gratification to a concern for national affairs and public morality,thereby transforming"personal affection"into"public sentiment".In his later years,he pursued governance and social stability,serving as an instructor in Dantu and magistrate of Shouning,thereby practicing his vision of a"society rooted in affection".The volume's numerous newly verified historical facts and cultural perspectives offer novel theoretical insights and practical experience for shifting the focus of ancient Chinese literary studies from"literary history"to"spiritual history".关键词
