Abstract

Reservoir is crucial sources of drinking water,and the Permanganate index(CODMn)is a key index for measuring the degree of organic pollution in waters.Fine-scale monitoring of CODMn in reservoirs can provide critical data support for reservoir water quality protection and management.This study focuses on three reservoirs in Liuxi river basin(Liuxihe reservoir,Huanglongdai reservoir,and Jiuwantang reservoir).By integrating Sentinel-2 imagery and surface monitoring station water quality data,a support vector machine(SVM)retrieval model for reservoir CODMn was developed.This model was used to estimate the CODMn in the three reservoirs from 2017 to 2024.The results demonstrate that the proposed CODMn retrieval model achieved high accuracy,with R2 of 0.72.The dynamic distribution revealed that all three reservoirs generally exhibited a"low-high-low"trend in terms of intra-annual variation,which is closely related to regional hydrological factors such as temperature and precipitation and algae seasonal growth.In terms of inter-annual variation,Jiuwantang has the highest average annual CODMn among three reservoirs,and reaches the highest in April,which may be attributed to the topographic characteristics of reservoir upper area and pollution sources distribution around reservoir.The research can provide technical reference for reservoir water quality management and pollution control.
