Systematic review of Chinese versions of ageism assessment tools for older adults

Abstract
Objective:Numerous tools have been developed or adapted in China to assess ageism toward older adults;however,no standardized evaluation of their psychometric properties exists,and evidence-based guidance for tool selection remains lacking.This study aims to systematically evaluate the psychometric characteristics and methodological quality of Chinese ageism assessment tools for older adults,providing a reference for healthcare professionals in selecting high-quality instruments. Methods:A comprehensive search was conducted in Web of Science,PubMed,Cochrane Library,Embase,VIP Database,CNKI,Chinese Biomedical Literature Service System,and Wanfang database from database inception to January 31,2025.Studies evaluating the psychometric properties of Chinese ageism assessment tools for older adults were included.The consensus-based standards for the selection of health measurement instruments risk of bias checklist and quality criteria for measurement properties were used for assessment,and final recommendations were formulated. Results:A total of 18 studies involving 16 Chinese versions of ageism assessment tools were included.None of the tools reported responsiveness,measurement error,hypothesis testing,or cross-cultural validity.The University of California Geriatric Attitudes Scale was rated as Grade C due to insufficient internal consistency,but with high-quality evidence.The remaining 15 tools were rated as Grade B because of insufficient or uncertain content validity and moderate or lower levels of evidence. Conclusion:The psychometric properties of existing Chinese versions of ageism assessment tools for older adults remain incomplete.Among them,the 12-item Ambivalent Ageism Scale demonstrated relatively favorable measurement characteristics,with concise items,ease of use,and satisfactory reliability and validity,and can be provisionally recommended.However,further studies are required to verify other measurement properties of this instrument.关键词
