Wide-swath motion compensation algorithm for SAS based on DPC accurate fitting of motion errors

Abstract
The existing motion compensation algorithms for wide-swath synthetic aperture sonar(SAS)systems based on displaced phase center(DPC),which use an approximate range history error based on the slant-range projection,will fail in the case of large motion errors,resulting in severe image defocusing.To solve the problem,an exact expression of the range history error with respect to the sway,heave,yaw,and pitch was derived,and then a wide-swath motion compensation algorithm for SAS systems based on an accurate fitting of motion errors using the DPC was proposed.First,the echo data were segmented in slant range,and the time delay between successive pulses was estimated using the DPC algorithm.Then,the objective function was constructed by summing the squared residuals between each segment's time delay and the exact range history error,and the Gauss-Newton method was used to solve this nonlinear least-squares problem to obtain the estimated sway and heave.Finally,the interpolation and phase multiplication were used to compensate for the range-variant time delay and phase error,respectively.After compensation,the range Doppler(RD)algorithm was used for imaging.The simulated data and sea-trial dataset verify the superiority of the proposed algorithm compared with existing algorithms in the estimated accuracy and the compensation performance,and the proposed algorithm also has good real-time performance.关键词
