Analysis of current status of health-risk behaviors among Shanghai adolescents and their correlation with academic performance
摘要
Abstract
Objective To understand the current status of health-risk behaviors among adolescents in Shanghai and their correlation with academic performance, and provide a scientific basis for the implementation of adolescent health management initiatives. Methods In 2021,an anonymous survey was conducted among middle school students in Shanghai using the Shanghai youth health-related behavior questionnaire. The survey primarily covered two dimensions:health-risk behaviors and students'self-rated academic performance.A multi-stage cluster sampling method was adopted to select participants, with a total of 17 688 students from 36 junior high schools and 19 senior high schools across the city included in the survey.Statistical analyses were performed as follows:the chi-square test was used to examine the distribution characteristics of health-risk behaviors across different population subgroups, while multi-factor ordered Logistic regression was applied to analyze the impact of health-risk behaviors on students'self-rated academic performance. Results Middle school students in Shanghai exhibited a variety of health-risk behaviors, such as insufficient physical activity, inadequate sleep duration, prolonged screen time, irregular breakfast consumption, low intake of vegetables and fruits, alcohol consumption, and tobacco use.Among students with health-risk behaviors, the proportion rating their academic performance as"average or below average"was relatively high(P<0.001);in contrast, among students without health-risk behaviors, the proportion rating their academic performance as"excellent"was significantly higher(P<0.001).Further correlation analysis indicated a significant negative association between health-risk behaviors and self-rated academic performance(all P<0.001).Compared with middle school students without health-risk behaviors, those with health-risk behaviors had a lower likelihood of reporting better self-rated academic performance(OR:0.420 to 0.820).Conclusion Health-risk behaviors are relatively prevalent among Shanghai middle school students and are closely associated with self-rated academic performance.Targeted behavioral interventions may help improve academic performance.关键词
