Abstract
Objective To investigate the impact of active exercise training on the rehabilitative efficacy in children with congenital muscular torticollis(CMT).Methods A total of 62 children with CMT who received treatment in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine,Xinhua Hospital,Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine,from January 2020 to December 2023 were enrolled as research participants.They were grouped using 1:1 matching based on gender and age,with 31 cases in the control group(receiving routine rehabilitation treatment)and 31 cases in the active exercise training group(undergoing active exercise training in addition to routine rehabilitation treatment).The severity of CMT in children from both groups was graded before treatment and 3 months after treatment.The thickness of the bilateral sternocleidomastoid muscles was measured via B-ultrasound,and the ratio(affected side/healthy side)was calculated.Relevant data were collected for comparison within groups before and after treatment,as well as between the two groups.Results Before treatment,there was no significant difference in the classification of CMT severity,the thickness of the bilateral sternocleidomastoid muscles,or their thickness ratio between the two groups(all P>0.05).After 3 months of treatment,the ratio of early severe grade CMT,the thickness and thickness ratio of the affected side sternocleidomastoid muscle in the control group,as well as the ratio of early severe grade CMT,the thickness and thickness ratio of the bilateral sternocleidomastoid muscles in the active exercise training group,were significantly improved compared with those before treatment(all P<0.01).In addition,the ratio of early severe grade CMT,the affected-side sternocleidomastoid muscle thickness,and its thickness ratio in the active exercise training group were better than those in the control group(all P<0.01),while there was no significant difference in the healthy-side sternocleidomastoid muscle thickness between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion The combination of conventional rehabilitation therapy and active exercise training can significantly enhance the rehabilitation efficacy in children with CMT.关键词
