Abstract
The simulation study was conducted to inves-tigate the impact of water hammer caused by pump shutdown in long-distance heating networks and its re-lationship with the number of pumps stopped,where the fault severity was evaluated and corresponding countermeasures were developed.The effects of pump shutdown water hammer are characterized by an in-crease in pressure at the pump inlet with the pressure wave propagating opposite to the flow direction of the medium,while the pressure at the pump outlet de-creases with the pressure wave propagating along the flow direction,where the magnitude of pressure in-crease at the pump inlet is essentially equal to that of pressure decrease at the pump outlet.The amplitude of pressure fluctuations and the reduction in the heating network's mass flow rate caused by pump shutdown wa-ter hammer are found to be related to the number of pumps stopped,showing that the more pumps are stopped,the greater the pressure fluctuation amplitude and the larger the mass flow rate reduction become.For a pump group consisting of four pumps,water ham-mer caused by stopping 1-2 pumps is identified to pro-duce relatively small pressure fluctuations and can be considered as a general fault,whereas water hammer resulting from stopping 3-4 pumps is identified to gen-erate significant pressure fluctuations and should be treated as a severe fault.关键词
