Abstract

In order to investigate the migration and transformation characteristics of lithium(Li)during coal gangue combustion,coal gangue from Inner Mongolia was selected for analysis.Techniques including ICP-MS,XRD,XRF,SEM,TG-DSC,and sequential chemical extraction were employed to investigate the migration and transformation of minerals and Li in different atmo-spheres(air and 21%O2+79%CO2)and at different temperatures(500℃-1 000℃).The results show that the mineral phase of gangue is mainly kaolinite,quartz,ilmenite,pyrite and calcite.After calcination,kaolinite and ilmenite minerals in the mineral phase disappear,and mullite and hematite appear.The presence of oxygen and carbon dioxide affects the chemical pathways of combustion and the chemical forms of the elements.21%O2+79%CO2 combustion atmosphere in the combustion products of Li content is higher than that in air,and O2/CO2 atmosphere volatility is significantly lower than that in air,favoring Li enrichment.High temperatures,however,are not favorable for Li enrichment,and the Li volatilization rate increases with increasing combustion temperature in both atmospheres.The volatilization rate of Li in both atmospheres increases with the increase of combus-tion temperature.Li in coal gangue and combustion ash is dominated by residue state,followed by carbonate-bound state,Fe-Mn oxide-bound state,organic-bound state,with a relatively small exchangeable fraction;Li is primarily hosted in silicate minerals.Li in coal gangue can be enriched in coal ash under the effect of combustion,thus achieving further Li enrichment.However,the Li trans-port transformation and enrichment behavior during combustion is affected by many factors,such as the Li storage form,the mutual reaction between Li and chemical components,and the combustion conditions(atmosphere,temperature,etc.).Therefore,the study of Li migration and transformation behavior in gangue in different combustion conditions,such as atmosphere and temperature,is expected to achieve the targeted enrichment of Li and provide a theoretical basis for the efficient extrac-tion of Li.
