Abstract

Bomb sulfur is one of the main data for calculating the gross calorific value of coal.When calculating the gross calorific value of coal,if the total sulfur content cannot replace the bomb sulfur,it is necessary to measure the actual sulfur content of the bomb washing solution.Accurately measuring the sulfur content of the bomb is crucial for calculating the gross calorific value.A comparative analysis was conducted on the differences and similarities of the sulfur content determination methods for bomb washing solutions specified in international standards,American stand-ards,and Chinese standard GB/T 213-2008,and the applicable scope of each determination method was proposed.A detailed introduction was given to the experimental steps for determining the sulfur content in the washing solution of a bomb using the sodium hydroxide titration method specified in Chinese standards,which improved the operability of the standards.By measuring the calorific value and bomb sulfur of four low calorific value samples,analyze the rela-tionship between total sulfur content,bomb calorific value,and sulfur conversion rates in bombs.The experimental results show that the conversion rates of sulfur to sulfuric acid vary among samples with different total sulfur contents when burned in a bomb.The conversion rate of sulfur is related to the instantaneous high temperature and total sulfur content generated during combustion.The lower the total sulfur content and the higher the instantaneous temperature,the higher the conversion rate of total sulfur to sulfuric acid in the bomb.The national standard stipulates that for samples with low sulfur and high calorific value,total sulfur can be used instead of bomb sulfur to calculate the gross calorific value.This calculation method omits the actual process of measuring bomb sulfur and has high accuracy,meeting the measurement requirements.For low calorific value and high sulfur coal,it is necessary to actually meas-ure the sulfur content in the bomb in order to obtain accurate results of gross calorific value.
