Inhibitory Effect of Cactus Pericarp Extract on Shewanella putrefaciens

Abstract
Alcoholic extract of cactus pericarp(the extract)was used as a biological antibacterial agent to investi-gate its inhibitory effect on Shewanella putrefaciens,the dominant spoilage bacterium in aquatic products.First,the anti-bacterial activity and minimum inhibitory concentration of the extract against S.putrefaciens were determined.Subse-quently,its inhibitory effects on the spoilage characteristics(biofilm formation,swarming motility,and protease activity)of S.putrefaciens were measured.The results showed that the extract exhibited inhibitory effects on S.putrefaciens,with a minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)of 2.340 mg·mL-1.The extract influenced both the morphology of biofilms and bacterial cells;specifically,it inhibited biofilm formation of S.putrefaciens in a dose-dependent manner.At 1.00 MIC,the biofilm formation rate of S.putrefaciens was only 26.55%(corresponding to a maximum inhibition rate of 73.45%).The extract also had a significant inhibitory effect on swarming motility and protease activity.At 1.00 MIC,the migration diameter of swarming motility and the radius of protease hydrolysis zone were essentially zero.关键词
