Abstract

Based on the hourly precipitation data from 6 national surface meteorological observing stations and 122 regional meteorological observing stations in Jiangmen from 2010 to 2021,the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of precipitation events with different durations during the flood season in Jiangmen are analyzed.The results are as follows.(1)The annual average precipitation in Jiangmen is higher in the south than in the north,with a stronger annual average precipitation intensity in the south.The annual average precipitation hours are high in the west.The distribution of monthly average precipitation exhibits a double peak pattern,with the highest precipitation occurring in August,the second peak in May,and the least precipitation in December.(2)Short-duration precipitation events are the most frequent during the flood season,while long-duration events contribute the most to the total precipitation.(3)During the early flood season,the short-and medium-duration precipitation predominantly affects the northern region,whereas the long-duration precipitation primarily affects the southwestern and coastal areas.During the latter flood season,there is little variation in the frequency of long-duration precipitation,but the contribution of precipitation from the southern region is greater.(4)Spatially,nearly 40%of the stations record peak daily average precipitation from morning to noon both in the early and latter flood seasons.During the early flood season,the northwestern region exhibits stronger convection from afternoon to evening,while the southeastern region experiences more intense convection during the latter part of the night,and the average precipitation intensity is large from morning to nightfall.In the latter flood season,the nocturnal precipitation becomes more pronounced than in the early season,with strong average precipitation intensity from midnight to morning.
