Research on Mechanical Activation Process of Low Grade Complex Copper Sulfide Ore

Abstract
Copper is the most critically scarce mass-produced non-ferrous metal mineral in China,primarily sourced from copper sulfide ores.It is mainly extracted through pyrometallurgical processes,but this method imposes high grade requirements on the ore.As global ore copper grades gradually decline and environmental protection standards rise,the drawbacks of pyrometallurgy have become increasingly apparent.Given that hydrometallurgy offers superior advantages for processing low-grade,complex copper sulfide ores compared to pyrometallurgy,the development of a clean and efficient direct leaching process tailored for such ores has become imperative.Extensive literature reports that mechanical activation can enhance the processing efficiency of most refractory minerals,serving as an effective means to improve their reactivity.Therefore,this study applies mechanical activation to the pretreatment of refractory low-grade copper sulfide ores.Based on the particle size distribution changes before and after mechanical activation,we determine the optimal activation conditions to be 90 minutes,a ball-to-material ratio of 4:1,and a rotation speed of 450 r/min.However,prolonged activation time,excessive rotation speed,or excessive ball-to-material ratio can lead to particle agglomeration in copper sulfide ores,thereby diminishing their activation effectiveness.关键词
