Abstract

The furan-functionalized styrene(SF)side groups were introduced into polybutylene succinate(PBS)through melt grafting.Subsequently,bismaleimide small molecules were used as chain extenders to achieve chain extension of PBS via thermally reversible Diels-Alder reaction.The structure and properties of the chain-extended PBS were investigated using 1H NMR,DSC,and mechanical property tests.The experimental results show that the degree of chain extension of PBS can be controlled by adjusting the concentration of grafting monomer,the concentration of radical initiator,and the structure and concentration of small molecule chain extenders.When the grafting amount of SF reaches 0.44%(x),there are an average of 1.1 furan side groups per PBS molecular chain,theoretically resulting in a branched polymer.In PBS-5-3 with the highest SF grafting amount,the average number of furan side groups per PBS molecular chain is 2.8,theoretically yielding a lightly crosslinked polymer.The intrinsic viscosity of the chain-extended PBS increases,but it still maintains comparable melt processing properties to the unextended PBS.Meanwhile,it exhibits higher crystallization temperature,fracture strength,and elongation at break,and is degradable under the action of lipase.
