Mechanical Properties of Dual-Heterostructure High Entropy Alloys with Non-Metallic Strengthening under Room and Cryogenic Temperatures

Abstract
[Purposes]High-strength dual-heterostructure high entropy alloy(HEA)with stable mechanical properties at room and cryogenic temperatures is prepared to overcome the low yield strength of face centered cubic(FCC)HEAs.[Methods]The microstructure and deformation mecha-nism of CoCrFeNi HEA with non-metallic elements(Si,B,and N)were studied by Electron Probe Micro-analysis and transmission electron microscopy.[Results]The results show that the Cr2B phase emerges at grain boundaries during homogenizeation treatment.The dual-heterostructures of hetero-grains and hetero-precipitates are produced after annealing since the movement of shear bands and dis-locations is hindered by Cr2B phases during cold rolling.The yield strength(YS)of the prepared alloy is 1.1 GPa at both room and cryogenic temperatures,the plasticity is able to maintain at 11%.Disloca-tion motion is more difficult owing to large lattice friction stress,which results that the alloy obtains stronger work-hardening ability at cryogenic temperature.Twining is hard to be further activated in those zones with a large amount of σ phase,high-density dislocations,and small-sized grains,which enhance the YS of the alloy greatly,leading to the same YS and plasticity of alloy at room and cryo-genic temperatures.At room temperature,a small amount of stacking fault networks and Lomer-Cottrell locks are generated,while they are not found at cryogenic temperature,as the decrease of stacking fault energy induces more nanoscale transformation from FCC to hexagonal compact packing phase.关键词
