Abstract

Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces(RIS)are capable of dynamically controlling the wireless propagation environment and are one of the key technologies for sixth-generation(6G)mobile communications.In RIS-assisted cellular communication systems,two types of blind spots—open shadow regions and closed shadow regions—are constructed.A system-level simulation platform is built to perform coverage enhancement testing for both scenarios.Simulation results show that RIS significantly improves the coverage performance of shadowed areas,with the enhancement effect in closed shadow regions being higher than in open shadow regions.The results indicate that RIS is more suitable for enhancing coverage in closed shadow regions compared to open shadow regions.
